Why are we asking for your support?
Because cancer is very rampant in the low country/nation and advances in medicine have made it possible for those stricken by cancer to survive and live somewhat active lives. The toll cancer treatment takes on persons (although very individualized) can be physically exhausting and emotionally draining. Dragon Boat Charleston gives cancer survivors the opportunity to regain strength physically by the actual act of paddling and the opportunity to heal emotionally as you are surrounded by other cancer survivors on the team who are able to share their trials and tribulations and to help with issues a cancer survivor may face. Laurin, cancer survivor and team member
In 2001, Aventis Oncology donated the seed money to launch this amazing cancer survivor program at MUSC/Hollings Cancer Center.
From the beginning, The Bristol Marina and Charleston City Marina have supported Dragon Boat Charleston, financially and by allowing us to keep our boats at their fabulous facilities.
In June of 2008, Dragon Boat Charleston separated from MUSC to become an independent community based nonprofit cancer survivor support program.
To maintain and grow the program, Dragon Boat Charleston is dependent on the continued generosity of community.
